But Mona got to star in one of the columns which to me was the funniest of any of the columns I ve read Super fun and I highly recommend this 304 Well these are just fun and after reading two in less than 24 hours I think I ll be reading many in this series 304 I love this series I always enjoy reading about Hayley and the gang and to see what Hayley get herself into next It a always a fun read with an interesting mystery to be solved The location is wonderful too I love the articals she writes for The Island Times and she names names too I m surprised her friends and family still speak to her 304 Lee Hollis is a talented author and I just love Halloween and fall themed cozies.

This was an awesome book for the Halloween season Not only does Hayley love Halloween Bruce hates it and so does Liddy which made Hayley s columns that always appear between chapters even funnier I really loved reading those this time and normally they honestly don t do much for me but these were different I laughed out loud at the columns where she told about different Halloween pranks then there was a bet with Bruce was pretty funny too I like that she kept them recent. Death of a wicked witch lee hollis The mystery itself was a good one It s always sad when a nice person gets killed especially one with a yummy food truck Hayley and Bruce made a great team checking out clues and even Gemma got in on the act since she was home from New York with her boyfriend Conner Gemma had whole issue of her own to deal with but the outcome was a good one as you ll see at the end of the book I hadn t guessed the killer at all and Bruce was impressed by his wife during the showdown The running theme was Hayley trying to get Bruce to stop smoking after he d quit for a long time before that The way it was worked into the showdown was great I m still not completely caught up with the series but it s one that since I did start out reading the later books as ARCs I don t seem to mind going back and reading about how Hayley and Bruce came to be and what the kids got into when they were younger Liddy and Mona weren t in the main story much so when I saw Death of a Wicked Witch I just knew I had to get it In this edition of a Hayley Powell Mystery a new couple moves to town The husband is a minister and the wife owns a food truck called Wicked Wiches Sadly tragedy strikes when the food truck owner is found dead in her truck shortly after arriving to town while catering at the local Halloween Ball Costumes and flimsy leads make this mystery difficult to unravel but Hayley won t give up until she gets justice for her new found friend This who dunnit is well crafted with red herrings and misdirection along the way Five stars 304 I m always very excited whenever Lee Hollis releases a new book because they are one of my favorite Cozy Mystery authors DEATH OF A WICKED WITCH is book thirteen in the Hayley Powell Food and Cocktail series. Death of a wicked witch lee hollis In this book there s a nice Halloween theme to it It might be a little early for that at the time I m writing this review However I really don t mind I just really enjoy the easy way that Hollis writes that I can bear it. Death of a wicked witch lee hollis Now this book moves differently than the other books in this series Usually a quick death happens within the first chapter or two However I felt like Hollis approached this book much slower The victim is a nice lady by the name of Trudy Lancaster To be honest I actually really liked her character and although the pacing of this book was much slower I think it worked out because when Trudy is discovered death in her food truck while catering a Halloween party you have already formed a bond with her character and want to know who killed her. Death of a wicked witch lee hollis This then creates a greater drive for the reader to read on and find out what happened So although I typically prefer an early death I can understand why the authors decided to take this route too. Death of a wicked witch lee hollis There are a lot of good suspects in this book so it definitelyept things very interesting I wouldn t miss out on these books They re so easy to follow and very addicting 304 Only thing better than a trip to Bar Harbor Maine is a trip to Bar Harbor Maine in the FALL Yes ya ll its fall again and im on my way for a visit with Hayley and the gang Im hoping for lots of pumpkin picking checking out the fall leaves and smelling the fresh fall air Well I should have known things would never be that easy When I arrived Hayley was catching me up on the new town happenings Most importantly the two new town residents Ted and Trudy Lancaster and the two visiting residents Hayley s daughter Gemma and boyfriend Connor Ted is a pastor who is going to be taking over for the local retiring minister and Trudy runs a food truck Hayley gave me the thumbs up on Trudy s truck after trying some of her samples when Trudy came into the newspaper This is where things started to go off the rails Gemma tells Hayley she is thinking about breaking it off with Connor Connor asks Hayley for Gemma s hand in marriage and Trudy was in the hospital for food poisoning Whew it s a lot right Lol Worse for Trudy she was going to have her first town gig and it was a big one the annual Halloween Wicked Witches Ball Trudy is feeling better and despite everyone s concern insists on catering the party At the party the guests were getting antsy for Trudy s sandwiches but she wasn t answering her door After several attempts we decided to bust in the doorsadly Trudy was dead Hayley being Hayley I knew my trip was about to get tipped upside down My thoughts This series is always wicked fun I will say I didn t enjoy this one as well as some of the others I thought there was too much focus on Gemma and Connorthat really took away from the mystery Hollis still does a good job giving us a great puzzleI don t know maybe it was that Gemma annoyed me For whatever reason it was just too much This combined with the handsy minister and his wench of a wife all took away from the cozy feel for me That being said this was still a fun installment I loved the name of the sandwich truck wicked witches the red herrings the cover art Bruce not his new old nasty habit but him and all the phone Island times articles I m looking forward to my next visit already I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review I would like to thank Netgalley the author Lee Hollis and the publisher for this opportunity 304 Hayley Powell sleuths for clues to the murderer of a food truck owner in the thirteenth installment of this mystery series I thought the story was character driven than the mystery being center point Hayley and her husband Bruce s daughter Gemma has a fairly large secondary role as she struggles with her relationship with boyfriend Connor The retiring reverend is such a perv I couldn t understand why he hadn t been run out of town long before and his wife is a shrew They kind of bummed out the book for me I read this story for a Halloween theme cozy and I was disappointed there wasn t Halloween celebrating to it The author shares some great recipes for readers to try at home 304 I received an advanced copy of this book from Net Galley and the publisher in return for an honest review The release date for this book was 28 July 2020Lee Hollis is one of my favorite cozy mystery writers and she didn t disappoint with this new book She has a flair for writing such unique circumstances surrounding a mysterious death Though I knew early on in the story who the culprit was the how and why were very interesting to read about She always has great mini stories woven throughout her novels while also providing awesome recipes Her books justeep getting better and better 304 In Death of a Wicked Witch the 13th book in the Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mysteries lucky number thirteen plays a huge a role Author Lee Hollis treats us to some fun Halloween shenanigans involving a costume party and before the event concludes a lovely new addition to the Maine setting is found murdered A rival chef A jealous woman A handsy reverend The tale is quite a clever one and I m excited to see of the future books Hayley is of course in the middle of the investigation but she almost gets taken out for good this time 304 Such a great series and this book was no exception I couldn t put it down 304
